A fenced yard is not required.
The dogs are already crate trained and most are other-dog social.
All our dogs are 100% up to date on all vet care, are neutered, and are in good health to the best of our knowledge.
Our dogs are heartworm negative, clean, and free of fleas and ticks. They are on heartworm preventative. They have been de-wormed for all internal parasites.
All our dogs live comfortably in foster homes where they are socialized, taught how to live in a real home, and constantly evaluated and educated. We know our dogs so much better because we live with them.
Most of our dogs can be trained to live safely with small dogs and cats. Our foster homes can advise you about the details.
We perform a phone interview and home visit for each placement. The better we get to know you, the better we can help with placing the right dog in your home.
We prefer that you stay open to which dog you would like to adopt, as our mix is constantly changing, and a better-suited dog might become available during the course of the application process.
We follow up with our adopters on a routine basis to offer any help or support that is needed.
We operate a mailing list exclusive to our adopters where you can swap dog-sitting, vet care information, ask for help, get together for dog runs, or just share stories.
Our adoption fee ($250) is the same regardless of how much the dog has cost us in surgery, orthopedic work, emergency care, or vet bills. This is a bargain considering the work we put into our dogs, and is supported by donations and fundraisers.
Donations are always needed, and are tax-deductible. Greyhound Welfare is a registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization.
